Honour Singapore Seeking the Well-Being of the Nation
Chairman’s Letter: April 2017
Dear Donors and Friends of Honour (Singapore),

We continue to hold Singapore close to our hearts as we persevere in our efforts to promote the importance of Honour and Honouring for current and future generations to come. Thank you for supporting us in this exciting and fulfilling journey. All the progress to date would not be possible without your support for this national initiative that transverses ethnic, religious and cultural lines.

We believe that being a nation of people who honour our word has been the essential quality that has enabled Singapore to come this far since its independence in 1965. Singapore has distinguished herself from many nations in the world to become the world's strongest nation brand in 2016.

With the second anniversary of the passing of Singapore’s founding father Mr Lee Kuan Yew on 23 March, this is a timely reminder that we must continue to honour the values espoused by our founding fathers. We believe that we must continue to honour Honour for the continued survival and success of our nation.

This newsletter is to provide you an update of our past quarter and upcoming activities.

April 2017
The past quarter has been fulfilling for the team at Honour (Singapore). We successfully organised the 4th CEO Forum on 20 January 2017 which was attended by 45 senior leaders from 32 companies. We continue to engage the business community and corporate leaders through forums and dialogue sessions. We share more in depth on these initiatives in the following paragraphs.

Honour Film Initiative: Honour (Singapore) continues to support projects by student filmmakers at Ngee Ann Polytechnic and young filmmakers to produce short films on Honour. Our next Film Screening is coming up on Friday, 14 July 2017. Besides unveiling a new slate of short films by our young filmmakers, we are privileged to have as our keynote speaker, Mr George Yeo, to share his thoughts on Honour with us. We believe Mr Yeo will offer a rich perspective on honour that is both interesting and intriguing. We invite you to watch the current films here http://honour.sg/short-films/ or on our Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/HonourOurSingapore.

Honour Learning Journey: Following a successful pilot run of our Learning Journey programme in May and October 2016, we hosted 250 students from Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) on 3 January 2016. The students watched 4 short films and were guided in their reflections on what Honour means to them and how they can embrace it more intentionally in their lives. This was what the Secondary 4 & 5 students had to say about the Learning Journey and the films:

“Great and inspirational!”

“It makes me think about things I don’t normally think about.”

“It taught me life lessons in the real world situation.”

“I really liked all the videos. The stories were very beneficial and have really impacted me.”

“I realised that sometimes I don’t appreciate what my parents do.”

“I find it impactful because these films teach me how I can be a good influence.”

To date, we have hosted over 1500 students and 50 educators from eight schools. Our goal is to see the Honour Learning Journey become an annual feature in every student’s Character & Citizenship Education (CCE) journey. If you are an educator or if you would like to explore this avenue of values education through film, we welcome you to get in touch with us at admin@honour.sg.

Honour Toolkit: The production of the Honour Toolkit is completed and available to organisations that may find this material beneficial. Many corporations have values, but how many employees actually know and practise those values in their workplaces? The Honour Toolkit is designed to help organisations inject Honour into their own training programmes, so that their employees may honour their word, honour each other, and honour their company values. A sneak peek inside the toolkit is available here. For more information on the Honour Toolkit, please email ToolKit@honour.sg.

Talks: I continue to speak, on an invitation-only basis, on the subject of Honour at schools, companies, and community groups to share why Honour is important for the continued success and survival of our nation.

CEO Forum:
The CEO Forum is a periodic forum that we organise to bring together leaders of organisations, big and small, to share our views on Honour and discuss how Honour could be beneficial to their organisations. If you are a CEO and would like to attend a forum, please drop me a line at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg to express your interest.

Honour Champions Community: We welcome all who are prepared to lead as Honour Champions in their respective spheres of influence to contact us so we can meet to discuss the idea further. Our belief is that the culture of Honour promoted through Honour Champions and Honour Ambassadors will not just be critical for Singapore’s continuing survival and success as a nation, but also will be critical for the survival and success of our businesses and families, and our effectiveness as leaders and workers for the future. Do write me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg if you are keen to work with us.

Honour International Symposium:
The Honour International Symposium is a biennial symposium that brings together leaders and future leaders in business, government, and community groups to discuss issues of honour and honouring for successful business, stable homes, and strong nations. Our inaugural symposium was successfully organised in 2016 and we were honoured to have Alibaba’s founder, Mr Jack Ma, share his thoughts on the virture of Honour. To find out more about the symposium or to watch the recorded speeches, visit us at http://honourinternational.sg/videos.

The next symposium will be held on 19 – 20 July 2018 in Singapore with the theme BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE. We are currently working through the programme details and will be providing updates, but if you or anyone you know who might be interested in attending this symposium, please get in touch with me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg.
Thank You
Thank you your encouragement and belief in our mission of promoting a culture of Honour and Honouring. We look forward to your continued support in 2017 as we continue seeking the well-being of Singapore.

Please write me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg should you have any feedback on what we can do better, or if you have any suggestions on what else we might do or how we can work together.

Thank you.
