Honour Singapore Seeking the Well-Being of the Nation
Chairman’s Letter: October 2017
Dear Donors and Friends of Honour (Singapore),

We trust that this message reaches you well. Thank you for your continued support in our mission to promote a culture of Honour and Honouring for the well-being of our nation. This newsletter serves to provide you an update of our past quarter and upcoming activities.
October 2017
Honour (Singapore) has been gradually building up its reach and influence after its launch in August 2014.The past quarter has been exciting and encouraging as we continue to engage educators and schools, the business community and community leaders through forums and dialogue sessions. We share more in depth on these initiatives in the following paragraphs.

Films: The Honour Film Initiative continues to support young adult filmmakers and Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s student filmmakers to produce short films and documentaries on the multi-faceted dimensions of honour. To date, our films have garnered over six million cumulative online views which is very encouraging to us and we invite you to watch and share these films at http://honour.sg/short-films/ or on www.Facebook.com/HonourOurSingapore.

With support from National Youth Council, we were privileged to showcase our films to around 200 students from the Temasek Polytechnic Foundation Programme in early August on the topic of National Identity that was very well received. Through the films, the students gained a better understanding on what Honour looks like and learned ways they can apply it to their own lives. The next instalment of The Honour Film Screening will be held on 11 November 2017 at The Capitol Theatre and we invite you to join us for the premiere of a brand new slate of films.

Learning Journey: Following a successful pilot run of our Learning Journey programme in May and October 2016, we are grateful to have connected with ten schools, 2000 students and over 60 educators. Through the facilitation and personal reflections during the Learning Journey, the students were able to better understand the importance of Honour and also gained practical insights on ways of living it out in their own lives. We are planning for an Educators’ Forum and Dialogue Session towards end November 2017. And if you are an educator or would like to explore of the use of films in values education, please get in touch with us at admin@honour.sg.

Thought Leadership: I had the opportunity to speak at a West Zone Cluster Meeting for School Leaders held at Pioneer Junior College where I shared on the topic The Future of the Singapore Spirit and the cruciality of Honour and Honouring for the continued survival and success for Singapore. I was also invited to a dialogue session with a group of educators from Temasek Polytechnic where we exchanged ideas and explored collaborative opportunities and synergies. It was encouraging on both sessions to hear from the educators as they described the kind of society they envisage not only for themselves and their students, but also for the generations to come.

I was also invited to speak at a town hall session with the management and staff of Moove Media and GobblerShop to share on the role of Honour in business. It was a lively discussion and the feedback was positive and encouraging. For any company or business to succeed, it must honour its word, values, employees, customers and stakeholders, and everyone involved in the business.

Honour Toolkit: Many organisations have values, but how many employees practise their organisation’s values in their workplaces? The Honour Toolkit is specifically designed to help organisations embed the virtue of Honour into their existing programmes, so that their employees would be able to honour their company values, honour their word and honour each other for the success of their organisation. A sneak peek inside the toolkit is available here. For more information on the Honour Toolkit, please email ToolKit@honour.sg.

Talks: I continue to speak on an invitation-only basis on the subject of Honour at schools, companies, and community groups to share why Honour is important for the continued success and survival of our nation.

CEO Forum:
The CEO Forum is a periodic forum that we organise to bring together leaders of organisations, big and small, to share our views on Honour and discuss how Honour could be beneficial to their organisations. If you are a CEO and would like to attend a forum, please drop me a line at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg to express your interest.

Honour Champions Community: We welcome all who are prepared to lead as Honour Champions in their respective spheres of influence to contact us so we can meet to discuss how an Honour Champions Community can be useful and encouraging. Our belief is that the culture of Honour promoted through Honour Champions and Honour Ambassadors will not just be critical for Singapore’s continuing survival and success as a nation, but also will be critical for the survival and success of our businesses and families, and our effectiveness as leaders and workers for the future. Do write me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg if you are keen to be involved.

Honour International Symposium: The Honour International Symposium is a biennial symposium that brings together leaders and future leaders in business, government, and community groups to discuss issues of honour and honouring for successful business, stable homes, and strong nations. Our inaugural symposium was successfully organised in 2016 where we had the privilege of hearing Alibaba’s founder, Mr Jack Ma, share his thoughts on the virtue and criticality of Honour. You can find the video message from him at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1s8I2xREZs. To find out more about the symposium or to watch the recorded speeches, visit us at http://honourinternational.sg/videos.

The next Honour International Symposium (HIS2018) will be held on 19 – 20 July 2018 in Singapore with the theme Be The Best You Can Be. We are currently working through the programme details and will provide updates as we go along. Do set aside the evening of Thursday 19 July 2018 and the whole day of Friday 20 July 2018 to attend if you can attend HIS2018. If you or anyone you know may be interested to attend HIS2018, please register your interest with me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg.
