Honour Singapore Seeking the Well-Being of the Nation
Chairman’s Letter: January 2018
Dear Donors and Friends of Honour (Singapore)

Happy 2018! May this year be fulfilling and extraordinary for you in your endeavours; may it bring you good health, much happiness, and many new opportunities and possibilities!

The team at Honour (Singapore) remains committed to promoting a culture of Honour and Honouring for the well-being of our nation across all cultural, religious and ethnic lines. Our hope is that Singapore continues to be HOME, abundant with HOpe and MEmories, not only for our generation, but also for the generations to come. As we persevere in our efforts to share the importance of Honouring our word, Honouring each other and Honouring innovation and excellence for the continued survival and success of Singapore, we recognise that our progress would not be possible without your generous support and encouragement. Thank you very much for your continued support.

This quarterly newsletter serves to provide you an update on our past quarter initiatives as well as inform you especially of the Honour International Symposium 2018 for which we wish to invite your interest and your participation.
January 2018
The past quarter has been exciting and fruitful for the team at Honour (Singapore). We successfully organised the 5th Honour Film Screening that was played to an audience of around 450 guests. We also organised The Honour Lunch which was attended by some 260 guests. We continue to engage community leaders, school leaders and educators, and the business community through forums and dialogue sessions. We share more in depth on these initiatives in the following paragraphs.

Honour Film Initiative: We continue to support young adult filmmakers and student filmmakers from Ngee Ann Polytechnic to produce short films and documentaries on the theme of Honour and Honouring. Our films have garnered well over six million cumulative online views with numerous positive and encouraging comments. We invite you to watch and share these highly emotive and inspirational films at http://honour.sg/short-films/ or on www.Facebook.com/HonourOurSingapore.

The 5th Honour Film Screening was held on 11 November 2017 at The Capitol Theatre where we unveiled a brand new slate of films to an audience of around 450 guests. It was meaningful and inspiring as we honoured the Invisible People of Singapore who graced our occasion that afternoon. Some of the feedback we received at the film screening were:

‘Good range of perspectives about the meaning of honour. Comes across as very sincere, genuine and convincing’

‘Thank you for sharing these films with us’

‘This is my 3rd time attending the film-screening. Each time I left the theatre learning new perspectives and insights on the term "honour". I am truly inspired by the stories. I salute to them…’

‘Good job! Appreciate your efforts! Keep doing this to educate young and old about "honouring" one another’

‘Amazing films overall with beautiful reasons as inspirations’

The Honour Lunch 2017: We successfully organised our first Honour Lunch on 3 November 2017 at The Fullerton Hotel with some 260 guests. During the lunch, we updated our guests on what Honour (Singapore) has been up to since our launch in 2014 and I had the privilege of sharing thoughts on the survival and success for Singapore for the coming years. We had the opportunity to showcase some of our selected films and also had the privilege of honouring several of Singapore’s pioneer Olympians together with other guests who graced the occasion.

Learning Journey: Following a successful pilot run of our Learning Journey programme in May and October 2016, we are happy to have connected with 11 schools and reached out to over 2,500 students and 60 educators. Through the facilitation and personal reflections during the Learning Journey, the students were able to better understand the importance of Honour and also gained practical insights on ways of living it out in their own lives. If you are an educator or would like to explore the use of our films in values education, please get in touch with us at admin@honour.sg.

Thought Leadership: I had the opportunity to meet School Leaders from the North Zone Cluster and speak to them on the topic of Leading into the Future. I shared the criticality of Honour and Honouring for the continued survival and success for Singapore, in a lively and engaging session. I also had the privilege to address Year One students of the International Baccalaureate Diploma course at Hwa Chong International School on the importance of Honour and Honouring. It was encouraging to see the young participants ask very interesting questions during the Q&A segment.

Honour Toolkit: Many organisations have values, but how many employees practise their organisation’s values in their workplaces? The Honour Toolkit is specifically designed to help organisations embed the virtue of Honour into their existing training programmes, so that their employees would more strongly honour their company’s values, honour their word and honour each other for the success of their organisation. A sneak peek inside the toolkit is available here. For more information on the Honour Toolkit, please email ToolKit@honour.sg.

Talks: I continue to speak, on an invitation-only basis, on the subject of Honour at schools, companies, and community groups to share why Honour is important for the continued success and survival of our nation.

CEO Forum:
The CEO Forum is a periodic forum that we organise to bring together leaders of organisations, big and small, to share our views on Honour and discuss how Honour could be beneficial to their organisations. The next CEO Forum will be held on 27 April 2018; if you are a CEO and would like to attend one of these forums, please drop me a line at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg to express your interest.

Honour Champions Community: We welcome all who are prepared and convicted to lead as Honour Champions in their respective organisations and other spheres of influence to contact us so we can meet to discuss how you joining a Chapter of the Honour Champions Community can be useful and encouraging. Our belief is that the culture of Honour promoted through Honour Champions and Honour Ambassadors will not just be critical for Singapore’s continuing survival and success as a nation, but also is critical for the survival and success of our businesses and families, and our effectiveness as leaders and workers for the future. Do write me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg if you are keen to be involved.

The members of the first Honour Champions Chapter met on 18 November 2017 and participated in The Honour Toolkit and other activities. The session was highly engaging and very well-received. Below are some of the feedback from participants.

‘What a great session to go deep into the concept of Honour … the debate was great fun and everyone shared their views about Honour … I also went on to conduct parts of the workshop for my team (at work) and they enjoyed it thoroughly’

‘Great awareness and insight on each other’s perspective. Honour is a choice’

‘… today’s training was very fruitful for me and thank all of you’

‘I have gained insights as I listened to others as they shared their perspectives on Honour … the awareness helps me to be more sensitive’

‘The Honour Champions Workshop really challenged my beliefs, understanding and perception of Honour … the debates were animated, profound and insightful … the workshop guided us on how we can embrace and incorporate Honour into our life, community, workplace or business’

‘We are all ready to champion Honour at our home and workplace … spread the wonderful message that honour is love, respect and thinking of others’

Honour International Symposium 2018: The Honour International Symposium is a biennial symposium that brings together leaders and future leaders in business, government, and community groups to discuss issues of honour and honouring for successful business, stable homes, and strong nations. Our inaugural symposium was successfully organised in 2016 where we had the privilege of hearing Alibaba’s founder, Mr Jack Ma, share his thoughts on the virtue and criticality of Honour. You can find his video message at here. To learn more about the symposium or to watch the recorded speeches, visit us at http://honourinternational.sg/videos.

The next Honour International Symposium (HIS2018) will be held on 19 – 20 July 2018 in Singapore with the theme Be The Best You Can Be. Do set aside the evening of Thursday 19 July 2018 and the whole day of Friday 20 July 2018 to join us if you can attend HIS2018. Speakers at the Honour International Symposium come from a variety of backgrounds and countries. They will share their thoughts and experiences on the effective practice of Honour in business, leadership, family, and life. If you or anyone you know may be interested to attend HIS2018, please register your interest with me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg. As participation will be by invitation, it is important that we know who may be interested to come.

Audited Accounts: Finally, on an administrative note, we are glad to inform you of the annual audit of our accounts for the period 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017. The auditors have found them to be in good order. You can find a copy of their report here.
Thank You!
Once again, none of these initiatives and progress to date would have been possible without your generous support. With much gratitude and appreciation, we thank you for your encouragement, support and belief in our cause as we seek to promote a culture of Honour and Honouring for the well-being of Singapore. We look forward to your continued support in 2018.

If you have any ideas or feedback, please get in touch with me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg.

Wishing one and all a Happy New Year and a fulfilling life.
