Honour Singapore
Seeking the Well-Being of the Nation
Chairman’s Letter: October 2024
Dear Friends and Partners of Honour (Singapore),

The past quarter has been fruitful, exciting and eventful. We successfully organised the 4th Honour International Symposium that was attended by over 350 delegates, the largest number of participants since the inaugural symposium in 2016.

We continue with Thought Leadership outreach with business and community leaders to promote a culture of honour and honourable behaviour for the well-being of our nation with honour-directed individuals, honour-directed families, honour-directed communities, honour-directed organisations and honour-directed nation.

This quarterly newsletter serves to update you on the key events because you are our deeply valued partners and supporters in the pursuit of seeking the wellbeing of our nation.
KEY UPDATES
We successfully held the 4th Honour International Symposium with over 350 participants comprising senior and up-and-coming leaders, including international delegates from 13 nations, namely, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, China, Ghana, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Slovenia and Switzerland. The breadth of interest is both welcome and encouraging.
Honour International Symposium 2024 (HIS24)
HIS24 was held on 26-27 September 2024 at the Pan Pacific Hotel Singapore. Over 350 delegates leading in government, business and community met to discuss the issues of honour and honourable behaviour for successful business, stable homes, and strong nations. HIS24 saw 15 notable speakers and 26 international participants.

We were especially honoured by the presence of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore and Patron of Honour (Singapore), as the Guest-of Honour at the Symposium; he led off the discussions in a fireside chat with a message which was inspiring, timely and encouraging in a world where so many countries are fractured by internal divisions of race, religion and political ideology. Mr President was reaching out to our hearts and spirits as we seek to maintain a Singapore good, peaceful and stable not just for our generation but for the generations to come.
We had a whole array of inspiring speakers who spoke their hearts and minds, including Mr George Yeo (former Singapore Minister for Foreign Affairs) at the welcome dinner, Professor Tommy Koh (Singapore Ambassador-at-Large), Ms Melissa Kwee (Director, Pontiac Land Group), Dr Saša Bozic (Social Sustainability Consultant, Sophia Academy Founder & Author), Ambassador Mohammad Alami Musa (Non-Resident Ambassador to the, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria), Dr Bruno Roche (Former Chief Economist, Mars Inc.), Ms Jessica Tan (Former Co-CEO, Ping An Insurance), Mr Ng Tian Chong (CEO, SingTel Singapore), Dr Valerie Speth (Managing Director, Climate Infrastructure Group, Asia Pacific, BlackRock), Mr Dinesh Senan (Chairman and Founder, Asian Climate Technologies VCC), Ms Jessica Cheam (Founder and Managing Director, Eco-Business, Asia-Pacific), Professor Seeram Ramakrishna (Professor of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore), Dr Emmanuel Odame [Chairman, Honour (Ghana)], Dr Hannes Schmid (Founder, Smiling Gecko Switzerland, Co-founder, Smiling Gecko Cambodia).

We are currently working on an online platform to post some of the presentations that were recorded at the Symposium. We hope that delegates who found the event useful and helpful would be able to share the presentations with their networks and spheres of influence so that many more can benefit from the discussions centred on Honour and Honourable Behaviour. Do visit us at the symposium website to learn more at www.honourinternational.sg. And we can all start to look forward to the next Honour International Symposium, in 2026!
Leaders Forums
Every quarter or so, we hold a Leaders Forum where we have speakers in various walks of life share their wisdom and experience with leaders in family, community and organisations, on how honour in thought and behaviour feed into long-term success. The next Leaders Forum will be held on 24 October 2024. The theme for the Leaders Forum will be “Creating a Gracious Society” with Mr Tony Soh, CEO of National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre, as our keynote speaker. He will share how people from various cultures and backgrounds can join together to achieve much in common purpose, a manifestation of what Dr Goh Keng Swee, a pioneer First Deputy Prime Minister in Singapore’s founding generation, used to refer to as “enlightened self-interest”.

If you are a Leader and would like to attend one of these forums, please get in touch with me at limsiongguan@honour.sg to express your interest. Attendance at Leaders Forums is by invitation.
“What Next? Workshops"
We run workshops on the theme of "What Next?” where participants discuss and come to a consensus on what would make a sustainably successful Singapore some decades down. We should want every generation of Singaporeans to find Singapore as the one place in the world which offers them the opportunity to be the best they can be according to their talents and abilities. The workshop seeks to help participants think for the long-term without being side-tracked by the challenges and difficulties they face day to day in their personal lives or in running their enterprises. We need to have the confidence and gumption to deal with the Unknown Unknowns and to Expect the Unexpected.

Some needs for the long-term may well take 20 or 30 years to bring about. So if, as a people, we do not think with that longer timeframe, we will miss out on creating conditions which will allow our children and grandchildren to be able to thrive in their time. We have conducted “What Next?” workshops with postgraduate business students, university undergraduates, young working adults, educators, and community leaders. We hope to also reach out to parents, religious groups, and other communities who are interested in the longer-term development of Singapore as society and nation, so that they also can position themselves and their organisations better for the future. If you are keen on attending or having us lead such a workshop for you, please get in touch with me at limsiongguan@honour.sg.
THANK YOU
Thank you for your continued encouragement for Honour (Singapore). We at Honour (Singapore) recognise that all progress to date has been possible only with the active support of many donors and partners. We have created 'The Honour Donor Roll' on our website to publicly thank all of our generous donors and supporters who have helped us so much over the years. Every donation is important, though we are especially acknowledging a special group of Founder Donors who support us with a donation of a million dollars and more. If you can be a Founder Donor, we will be so very grateful for your extra-generous support.

We welcome donations of any amount from both corporates and individuals, with the donations qualifying for tax deductibility as we enjoy the status of an Institution of Public Character (IPC). Sponsorship donations are also welcome for the Honour Film Initiative and our ongoing programme and initiatives.

I look forward to hearing from you any ideas or feedback on how we can do better. Please feel free at any time to get in touch with me at LimSiongGuan@honour.sg.

My very best wishes to you and your family.
