An Unconventional Passion
This video titled ‘An Unconventional Passion’ presents Kalai’s work at ACRES which deals with the rescue and rehabilitation of injured wild animals or those from the illegal wildlife trade. The blueprint for Singapore’s success since her independence has been that of human imagination and hard work, as well as the courage to be different and unique –– founded on honour, integrity and trust. Kalai’s job, though unconventional, creates ripples in the conservation scene in Singapore as it pushes us to consider not only to honour our word, and honouring people, but also honouring nature and the world around us.
This film follows Kalai through his workday rescuing and taking care of injured animals at the ACRES Centre, as well as his motivation in addressing human-wildlife conflict and the illegal wildlife trade. His dedication, shown through his grit, resilience and a genuine passion to honour nature, exemplifies Sustainability driven by Honour.
Outreach to Businesses & Organisations
The sustainability group will also work on helping businesses develop a values-driven approach. Council members’ outreach to Corporate Partners bears a goal of nurturing an ESG lens in building sustainable, multi-generational social innovation solutions through business. This will emphasize building a business for sustainability, for both the company and for the environment and society in general.
Following in the footsteps of the Business Roundtable, businesses could be encouraged to publicly sign an Honour Sustainability Champions Pledge, and consider how their businesses could best build up an internal culture promoting sustainability initiatives. Businesses should also connect with the next generation, in determining what types of initiatives would resonate with them.
