Honour International Symposium 2022

The third Honour International Symposium will take place in Singapore on 16 September 2022. Distinguished speakers and delegates will once again convene around the theme of honour and its relevance in leadership and in life, and the implications of leadership in a post-pandemic world.

Our theme for 2022 is “Forging Success with I3“. We want to help people succeed with their talents and abilities, with family, in society, in business, and in the nation. “Forging” means we get success by effort, with clear purpose, and through determination and tenacity. I3 stands for Integration, Innovation and Involvement.

The Honour International Symposium 2022 will share ideas on how you can achieve more by integrating the efforts, capacities and capabilities of people, how you can create the future with innovation and creativity, and how we all should not just be talking and criticising but can get involved in making the change we wish for. So join us there!

The symposium is an opportunity to hear from leaders in society at large, on their views of what it means to be successful in a manner that is honourable to their stakeholders.

I appreciate the focus on values in our nation, instead of just economic achievements or technology, as a driver for growth.

The focus on honour and the living examples of the speakers, as well as their ideas and practices, is highly relevant and helpful.

The Honour International Symposium brings together leaders of business, government, and community groups to discuss the application of honour and honouring for successful business, stable homes, and strong nations.

A by-invitation-only event, the Honour International Symposium brings together decision-makers who can influence the winning strategy and direction for their organisations.

The Honour International Symposium is organised by Honour (Singapore) in the belief that honour, resulting in trustworthiness and dependability, has been an essential element for Singapore’s economic success since its independence in 1965, and has enabled the small city state to draw investments and talent from all over the world.

Speakers from a variety of backgrounds and countries will share their experiences and thoughts on the effective practice of honour in organisations, leadership, families, and life, and why they believe Honour is the Way to Win in the private, public, and professional spaces.

Why Honour? In a world where change is constant, and the pace of change is accelerating, we need to have a stable set of values and principles to live by and address emerging challenges as we lead families, organisations, communities, and nations.

Honour is living by virtues, which are values in action. When you live an honourable life, you live according to universal virtues, and show great respect to yourself and other people by keeping your word and doing the right thing regardless of what others are doing.

Honour can thus be said to be the virtue of all virtues, for without honour, one would not live out the values that one believes in. Honour defines our humanity and it is ours to lose. It is like a muscle – we are born with it, but whether it maintains its functionality and grows depends on whether we choose to use and exercise it.

Trust is the most important currency for all long-term relationships regardless of whether it be in the personal, professional, or public space, and HONOUR IS THE FOUNDATION OF TRUST. For a system of trust to work, one party must first honour the other party with trust, and this in turn must be honoured and reciprocated by the other party, before a relationship of honour can be established and sustained.

While there are arguably many dimensions to Honour, there are two dimensions that are particularly important for the survival and success of relationships and leadership in families, organisations, communities, and nations – Honouring one’s word, and Honouring one another.
